DEPARTMENT OF THE
AIR FORCE
HEADQUARTERS 149TH
FIGHTER WING (ANG) (AETC)
12 March 2003
MEMORANDUM TO: Cub
Scout Pack 143
Boerne,
Texas
FROM: 182nd
Fighter Squadron
Lackland
AFB, Texas
SUBJECT: Invitation
to Inspect “Gunfighter” Operations
- I
would like to take this opportunity to formally invite each and every one
of you to visit the 182nd Fighter Squadron at Kelly Field,
Lackland Air Force Base on 1 November 2003. We can start anytime after 0930hrs. Your enroute time should be close to
1hr and we will need to know specifics on vehicles the day prior.
- The
182nd Fighter Squadron “Gunfighters” has a proud tradition of
defending the United States of America and the great state of Texas. We have flown a number of aircraft
types over the years. We currently
fly and teach other fighter pilots how to fly the F-16 Falcon, otherwise
known as the “Viper”. We look
forward to showing you more about the United States military, the Texas
Air National Guard, and the F-16 “Viper”.
- After
arriving at the base and coming through security, we will begin the
program with a briefing in the “main briefing room” of our squadron
operations building. During this
briefing we will talk about the Air National Guard, the role we play in
the defense of our nation, and show you some of the tools we use to
accomplish our mission. We will
talk a lot about airplanes; I trust you have some interest in this
subject. You will have an
opportunity to see, touch, and even try on some of the equipment that we
wear when we fly. You will have
plenty of time to ask questions.
Then, we will go to a large hanger and you will all have the unique
opportunity to look at a real F-16 fighter plane. You will be able to walk around it, ask
questions, and even touch it (sorry, but I’ve been told that I can’t let
you take it out for a spin).
- When
we are finished with the squadron tour, you will enjoy eating your packed
lunches at the pavilion and park just around the corner from our
squadron. We at the “Gunfighters”
greatly look forward to your visit.
See you then.
- You
can e-mail me or call with any questions and I’ll have directions for you
at the next meeting. My phone is
